Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speaking. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency which is a website with videos and guest posts on the representations of women in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American blogger and media critic who has won accolades for her work. She is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency investigates how women are represented in the popular media. She's determined to dismantle stereotypes of women as they are depicted in pop media. Additionally, she works to raise awareness about online harassment targeted at women, and other marginalized groups of people. Sarkeesian, who has the degree of Master's in the field of Social and Political thought from York University, is a popular public speakers. She has delivered speeches at TEDxWomen's XOXO Festival and the United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. At a young age she was intrigued by issues of gender identity as well as feminist ideas. As a student, in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency Website. This ambitious woman planned to launch an internet series on the role of gender in games however, she was also the subject of an online harassment campaign. The harassment didn't discourage her. It only strengthened her as a feminist journalist. Numerous awards have been given to her in recognition of all of the contribution she has made. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winner for her media criticism and is the co-founder of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit which studies the portrayals of women in pop cultural stories.
